It's a good one to watch and see how many discrepancies you can find :-) It does appear to actually be filmed on a real Beneteau. Nope, it is not a realistic premise. Nope, it won't be winning any awards. Anyone else have a favorite sailing movie that's currently available via streaming? Thanks!

The movie is about Alex Rust. Met him in St. Maarten years ago. He and his girlfriend had sailed a 26 footer from FL. called "The Wild Sea Monkey" He was from Seymour, IN, graduate of Purdue. Bit of an adventurer, claimed to have hiked across Africa. Over beers said he was headed to Panama to get a bigger boat. One story was they got into trouble in Bahamas for barbecuing an iguana. Sadly, understand that he passed away in India after contracting some type of infection.

Re: Sailing movies to stream
For those who appreciate classic, salty, sailing vessel movies I might suggest: All the Brothers Were Valiant (1953), Cruise of the Zaca (1952), Moby Dick (1956), the series (2011), another series (1998), and, my favorite Moby Dick (1930, with John Barrymore. This one has a a very different ending.

Re: Sailing movies to stream
Not Sailing, but on the ocean, - In the Heart of the Sea - a 2015 historical adventure-drama film directed and produced by Ron Howard and written by Charles Leavitt. It is based on Nathaniel Philbrick's non-fiction book of the same name, about the sinking of the American whaling ship Essex in 1820, an event that inspired the novel Moby-Dick.

Re: Sailing movies to stream
Great thread. Inspired me to go to Amazon.com and enter "sailing documentaries and movies" and added at least 20 that I haven't seen before to my watchlist. Time to binge!

Re: Sailing movies to stream
I can not believe no one person listed the all time favorite family boating movie that really fits our living the dream. I know it was one of my favorites, after pushing around my 65' Schooner "ALTAIR" around the Caribbean for 6 years. Folks "CAPT RON " one of the most fun family movies made. No blood, no guts, no bad language, just a great spoof on a family cruising. Capt. Vince Rakstis, Ret MS
