Re: Sailing Doodles fire
It seems like everything these days relating to sailing media is on steroids.
From Americas Cup to cruising YouTubers.... Doodles follows the same formula of creating drama and buxom eye candy to grab your attention.
The business plan for all is to create empathy and then financial support to make all the documenting work worthwhile.
Doodles started out honest, got cute, then stereotypical in order to define an "American East Coast" Brand, geared towards the New York mindset of a male hustler in Paradise.
Then as more clicks and donations reinforced his brand, Bobby becomes a caricature of that Brand, so not suprising that many view him as slippery .
Supporters put him up on a pedestal so that now as reality unfolds, critics unload on the percieved hustle, while others just shake their head at the diversity of human perceptions.
I only watch those whose personalities I like, since I've been there, done that.
RAN, SSL, UMA or others that have interesting refits.
Delos, Vagabond also have become caricatures of themselves, but their brand is well done

I find that Delos and La Vagabonde pretty much destroyed their brand. Delos became more or less a couple sailing with a baby with Kazaa looking more harried with each episode. La Vagabonde lost its charme quickly once when moved onto the catamaran.
Another interesting one is Gone with the Wynns. When you look at their first episodes and compare it to their current, it is dramatic how unkindly a life on sea can age people. And in this case, he's a professional photographer, she was his model / make-up artists. Patrick Laine or Erik Aanderaa have less to fear in this department than the YouTube ladies.

Yes, apparently an hour of filming produces just a few minutes of content - and editing, particularly the sound, is really a full time 8-hour day job at one video per week.

thought of donating until reading this... why would anyone support a floating RV - or more of a self propelled trailer?

Uma makes more detailed information about their plans and refits available to Patrons.
They've done a fair number of projects over the years, many unique to them. Their YouTube videos show what they are doing, but are short on details. I'm seriously considering joining the Uma Nation just to gain access to the extra info.

I spent my career producing television, marketing, documentaries and instructional videos before I retired. You are correct in assuming that it's a full time job producing a 12-20 minute video per week.

FYI: He accepted the $$$ for that concept but bought a Hatteras with that money.
So... he is not a 'poor guy', he is a FRAUD.

Regardless of his sailing abilities, he financed the purchase of a Hatteras from contributions based on the need to repair the damaged sailboat. I know I would be pissed off if I contributed to help repair a sailboat and my contribution was used to buy a motorboat.
