S/V Archer sustains damage in Bora Bora due to a bad mooring

Figured this was relevant to the community and didn’t see it here anywhere.

Last night S/V Archer (Instagram @the_sailing_family) went ashore for dinner and upon returning found their boat and mooring missing.
Apparently the mooring line snapped and the wind blew the boat into the Pearl Resort and against a wharf, sustaining some serious damage.

Heartbreaking news for this beautiful family and gorgeous boat. Hopefully repairs can be made quickly and they can continue their cruising adventure.

Very sad, we trust moorings way to much.

Re: S/V Archer sustains damage in Bora Bora due to a bad mooring

^^ The Bora Bora moorings have been a particular problem. A source of money but no-one taking responsibility for maintaining them.

As Noonsite says "There are mooring buoys, but it is dubious as to how well they are maintained."

Unfortunately, they have also instituted various anchoring restrictions and fees, without cleaning up the mooring problem.
