AVB--- I was addressing the organization not the vessel or is Sea Shepard now an organization?

EDIT: You are right, just did a Google. They are an org.

PITTSBURGH — The Environmental Protection Agency has dramatically lowered its estimate of how much of a potent heat-trapping gas leaks during natural gas production, in a shift with major implications for a debate that has divided environmentalists: Does the recent boom in fracking help or hurt the fight against climate change?

Oil and gas drilling companies had pushed for the change, but there have been differing scientific estimates of the amount of methane that leaks from wells, pipelines and other facilities during production and delivery. Methane is the main component of natural gas. "

Now as to whales! I do not give a damn about the Japanese taking whales for food. It was OK for our country to decimate the whale population to near extinction in the 19 and early 20th century. But I do care about pirates and that category fits Greenpiece.

Foggy
Dude!!!...It's the ground water contamination. The pump all kinds of nasty $&*t down deep and a lot of it ends up in the ground water. Locals in these areas can no longer drink or even bathe in there water. But of course the companies are challenging the blue-collars to prove it...Business as usual.
Let me see if I have your thinking straight...because we hunted whales to extinction 50-200 years ago, then stopped due to environmentalist pressures, it's ok for Japan to hunt them now.

HEY DUUUDE, you're only reading what supports your environmental conviction. Get real!

Never underestimate the power of denial. Besides this is major thread drift anyways. Thanks for reconfirming my suspicions about power boaters

Denial hell!!!!

DUDE!

There were some who challenged drilling in Pennsylvania claiming methane got into their wells. That for the most part was disproven although there was some evidence in a few areas where the concrete seal on the well heads could have leaked.

The drilling industry has taken strong steps to ensure their well heads are properly sealed. Spend more time getting facts instead of mouthing loud opinions.

And as to your comment on whales..... why hunting for them stopped in this country. NO, the whackies had nothing to do with stopping whale hunting years ago. IT WAS THE OIL INDUSTRY PRODUCTION OF OILS SUCH AS KEROSENE FOR LAMPS that undersold expensive whale oil. And if you're going to quote my posts, learn to quote correctly.

publicity stunt = civil disobedience

Ever hear of the Boston Tea Party? or was that just another "publicity stunt" going beyond the legal boundaries of a sovereign nation.

These GP actors should be supported for their efforts. Particularly by boaters who should understand what is happening to our oceans.

Ok...Now for the whale claim...From Wiki...

Modern whaling

Whale oil is little used today[6] and modern commercial whaling is done for food. The primary species hunted are the common minke whale and Antarctic minke whale, two of the smallest species of baleen whales. Recent scientific surveys estimate a population of 103,000 in the northeast Atlantic. With respect to the populations of Antarctic minke whales, as of January 2010, the IWC states that it is "unable to provide reliable estimates at the present time" and that a "major review is underway by the Scientific Committee."[7]
International cooperation on whaling regulation began in 1931 and culminated in the signing of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling (ICRW) in 1946. Its aim is to:
provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry.[8] The International Whaling Commission (IWC) was set up under the ICRW to decide hunting quotas and other relevant matters based on the findings of its Scientific Committee. Non-member countries are not bound by its regulations and conduct their own management programs.
The IWC voted on July 23, 1982, to establish a moratorium on commercial whaling beginning in the 1985–86 season. Since 1992, the IWC's Scientific Committee has requested that it be allowed to give quota proposals for some whale stocks, but this has so far been refused by the Plenary Committee.

Yes it seems leakage from well heads has been held to a minimum but I am afraid the jury is still out as to other areas of methane leaks. Fracking is by no means a proven safe technology. For instance sequestering and or recycling million gallons of water may still offer a difficult environmental problem. Particularly in areas of the country which DESPERATELY need water.

As far as whales go it IS largely the environmental movement that has halted whale farming in the US and is focusing on same in Japan. There is a reason we we don't wish to annihilate species even though we find them valuable to kill and eat.

There is also a good reason why we don't want drilling in hard to protect waters when there are alternatives. Kudos to GP.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Greenpease is claiming they were in international waters and the appropriate distance from the rig. Hmmm....
