Re: Roatan Bans Anchoring
You are going cruisiing in Sept in the middle of hurricane season in the Caribbean. I would talk to the local weatherman and then see a psych.
Good luck....mate

More boats arriving.... No Mooring fees..... The park service still patrols, but is not charging any fees... Don't know how long this will last...

Re: Roatan Bans Anchoring
Port captain says do not have to leave. That mayor has no jurisdiction. There is a meeting today with cruisers, port captain, and sheriff...

Re: Roatan Bans Anchoring
Apparently we have dropped off the map or interest... I have not heard anything since the meeting WAS supposed to happen.. IF it did and what came out of it.... No one seems to know here.... There are 4-5 boats here though...

Ahh... but POH is an Aussie, so the hurricane season may not be an issue for him. Even if he heads to Rotan he won't get there for a long time ; -)

Re: Roatan Bans Anchoring
Not much news... But we have 12-15 odd boats finding the moorings that are lying on the bottom for anyone to pick up and use... Rumor was the Port Captain got fired... But w/ a little further inquiries I found out that he was fired a little over a year ago... RPM hands are tied.... But would appreciate any donations from the cruising sailors... "Unoffically"....

Current Status at West End?
I have a friend who is about to head over to Roatan. What's the current status in the anchorage?
Moorings still removed? Anchoring allowed?
Thanks.

This is an old thread.. I assume it is still the same, but I am not there now. Email "Roatan Marine Park" or any of the dive shops in West End and they will tell you..

Re: Roatan Bans Anchoring
Yes, I know its an old thread, but seemed like the most appropriate place to post.
I have emailed RMP, but have not yet received a response. I did receive a response from a friend who lives on Roatan (although not in the West End). His understanding (not fully confirmed) is that the moorings are still gone and that boats are being allowed to anchor, but may be invited to leave after a few days.
