Rescue Needed

Hey Guys,

A crew from our community needs help!

A week ago the boat "Grain de Soleil" with three men aboard (Guillaume Moussette, Etienne Esteuelle, and Franck Cousin) was sunk by a bad storm about 500nm of the Azores Island. They have used their EPIRB manually activated and are believed to be in their life raft.

Cargos and private boats are looking for them but the more the better. The last emission of the EPIRB was at 33° 39',08 N et 38° 54',04 W. If anybody is sailing this way or are close to this zone please look around.

There is a facebook page for the last update of the search of the crew.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Grain...94363334045429.

Donations are also possible at: Centre Nautique de Lorient - L'Atlantique Le Tlgramme Groupama

Thanks to all looking for those guys,

Cheers,

Juan Pablo

Re: Rescue Needed

Yep. Interesting - someone in another thread said 'there was no bad wx in this area...' - see the Lady Domina thread.

I hope all crews will be found. Can imagine the SAR action there pretty intensive.

Re: Rescue Needed

Hey guys,

Here is the updated letter from the team looking for "Grain de Soleil".

Thanks,

Urgent Message: Crew in trouble.

Since April 24th, the crew of sailboat “Grain de Soleil” (11 meters with a ski blue hull) has been missing. The missing crew consists of 3 young men and is believed to have gone missing 500 miles southwest of the Acores. The men are thought to have left the Antilles in direction of Brittany. Air search and rescue teams have been trying to locate them ever since their emergency beacon signal was received. The three men are believed to be in their emergency raft. On April 27th, a faint signal was detected from their emergency beacon providing us with a new location.

Please note that two other sail boats have also been reported missing in the same area around the same time. These two boats have not released an emergency beacon signal. The first boat, “Lady Domina” is 75 feet long and has 5 crew members aboard. Lady Domina is a Norwegian boat. The second boat, “Team de Shock” has a white hull and black skirt. Its captain is Vincent Capgra. If you have any information regarding these two boats please contact us immediately.

Starting today, May 7th, the French Marine is mobilizing the Monge and L’Atlantique 2 in an effort to search for these crews.

Time is of the essence for the survival of these sailors. This is why a maximum amount of means must be deployed in the search for these men. Private search groups located in Lorient, Horta and Martinique are working closely with the French military and the CROSS in an effort to contact and alert all vessels and crews headed towards the Acores.

We are asking that all Marina offices aid in our efforts by please alerting any and all crews heading toward the Acores.

We also ask that you please display the attached document in highly visible locations within your marinas.

If possible we also ask that you please provide us with the satellite telephone numbers of all your vessel/crews within the search area so that we may provide them with the most updated location information we receive.

We are desperately counting on you cooperation in order to provide our missing sailors with the best chance of survival.

Thank you for your understanding.

Warmly,

The “Grain de Soleil” crisis team.

The news report indicate when the EPIRB activated, the area had 60 knot winds and 30 foot seas... That is a hell of a thing for a 10 meter boat.

Re: Rescue Needed

Indeed. Squalls can come and go very quickly. You can be hit by one unexpectedly, but a few hours later another vessel in the same general area can be experiencing something altogether mild and pleasant with little more than increased ocean swell to show for it.
