Reporting your position :Re-setting / Refreshing my Pea Sized brain:

OK,, ya break down at sea and then call Vessel Assist or Sea Tow. Looking at the screen, what numbers to they want to find your position?
( I tried to post the image larger, but it's automagically downsized for the forum frame).

How ( in what order ) and what do you read back over the radio so they can find your location?:

Thanks

The vessel position "Ves Pos". Read the latitude first (the one ending in N - for north) and then the longitude (the ending in W - for west).

That will do the trick.

My position is two five degrees five zero decimal three minutes north, zero eight zero degrees zero seven decimal zero minutes west.

I am rounding up the longitude to the nearest decimal on a minute.

Thanks.
I've heard the Coast Guard say "Dot" instead of decimal. I'll use decimal.

I think they can extract/poll your position when you are talking from properly wired dsc radio. Otherwise give them your lat and long. If you are close to a permanent fixture you can tell them your pos. relative to it too.

In real life the lat and long are often read degrees minutes and decimals.

Remember to update them if you are in the current, etc..

They can't extract your position from a dsc radio unless you've set it up to return automatic position requests or you specifically answer a position poll request.

They obviously get such a position with a distress DSC alert.

If the boat's not going anywhere then it's a Man On Boat alarm. Plus, it'll display the position.

If you are a Cellestial Navigator you say, "I am a little bit south of the sun and way left of venus. Over..."

Internationally decimal (pronounced as day-say-mal) is correct but when in Rome etc.
