In today's Royal Gazzette there is a statement from our Minister responsible for our ship register stating that our Police and Attorney General are conducting a full investigation.
I might add that our shipping registry is highly regarded in the industry.
The report states that the Captain and First Officer where apparently not made aware of the sighting.

Am I the only one that is ever surprised that a cruise or merchant ship stops for small boaters ever?

These are multi-billion dollar vessels, with budgets that likely measure in millions per hour to operate. Just one hour of their operation costs more than I'll likely make in my life time. Why should ANYONE spend that kind of money to rescue me when there is no chance that I'll ever be able to repay them or society is beyond me.

I don't question that they do. It just always surprises me when they do. That level of charity is not something to take lightly, and something to be grateful for when it happens.

hey lets face it the owner of carnival has to pay all those high salaries of the miami heat basketball team so no slow down on the ship that might cost extra money --

A Cruise liner gets stuck on a reef, or sinks,

People come from every where in all kinds of craft to render assistance to the Cruise Vessel in distress,

So dont give me that **** on being reimbursed or who is going to pay,

Its a rule of the sea, Maritime law,

You will render assistance immediately to any vessel in distress,

I would try my Damdest to help.

Its not like when your on land, You have a flat tyre, your not going to drown as well.

A freak wave rolls you over or a hole in your boat, (Floating container,)

You just cant leave it there on the high seas and walk home, or catch a Cab,

A Cruise Liner sinks,

Nah, we wont bother about it,
Its too expensive to run a few Naval Ships and Helicopters out there to save them.

But we will sue the company for polluting the ocean with fuel oil when their vessel sank, So we will make a dollar out of it any way,

No clean up necessary, the boat sank, 1500 people drowned, And just a little oil slick on the water, thats all thats left. Not a trace of any thing else,

Cost just doesnt come into it, when your trying to save some ones life,

Why should a fisherman in a small boat respond to a ship disaster? Just because it's the right thing to do. Letting kids die is just flat wrong, and I'm sorry but the laws and traditions in this regard are from the earliest beginnings of civilization. C-I-V-I-L-I-Z-A-T-I-O-N

Doesn't anyone find it concerning that the captain at first said he was "avoiding fishing nets after communication with a fleet" (no fleet in the picture BTW), and then we are told that the Captain and First Mate were not informed?

It's one or the other.

If you were the Captain, and were first told of this event much later, BUT had communicated with a fishing fleet some time in your voyage, wouldn't your first inclination be to refer to the event with which you were familiar, as he did.
His log will show if he spoke to a fishing fleet, or every one on the bridge will have to perjure himself to CHA.
