If a guy can keep a boat clean why does he need a girlfriend?

Re: Playing Matchmaker for a girlfriend. SF bay area.

Hi, Sailor Chick, Ann here.

NB: Jim will be posting under my avatar until his computer's fixed. As others have noted, sometimes our opinions are different.

Judging from the above posts, I'm thinking your friend might be better helped by a discreet crew position wanted ad. The problem I'm seeing is that she is being made out to be a gold digger, and I'm concerned this could get a bit ugly, and not be a help at all.

I'm in favor of your helping screen the guys if that what you all want to do, but I would over all feel more comfortable with this situation if she were to follow her own interests to meet men if that is what she wants--sometimes being in the middle is not an envious position in which to be.

Good luck with this one, both of you.

Ann

Oh, come on Ann, we're just having a bit of fun.
I do all the dishes in our house, and my wife does all the cooking.
We both do boat stuff together and have for 45 years next month.

Ann
The problem with a crew list ad, is you get lots of the same guys, as here. She's actually looking for a long term relationship and not just crew. She's not at all a gold digger. It's more me trying to weed through the chaff, as it were. She's not looking for daddy Warbucks, just a nice guy with a boat. I thought it would not be too hard. But perhaps I was wrong.

But knowing that many guys here tend to be a bit gruff, with ladies, and I knowing a bit about many here, can run interference at least at first. That was my thought anyway. Knowing CF guys as I do and based on some of the previous responses, I think running interference is still a good idea.

Re: Playing Matchmaker for a girlfriend. SF bay area.

SC, I understand your thinking and agree with it, but have no doubt it could put you in a difficult position.

IF I was a single woman (which I'm not) who loved boating, I can imagine finding a compatible friend or partner would be pretty tough. An obvious place to look after exhausting the local opportunities would be on line .... and that would scare the heck out of me so I just wouldn't do it. You're offering to put yourself in the middle, and I think that's pretty nice of you.

I do hope it works for both Jane's sake & yours.

Latitude 38?

Tough goal you've set for yourself.

She's the one who has to make the effort.

Good luck.

She's not much into on-line dating and there really isn't a sailor dating site. She does love being on the water though. Figure it can't hurt to ask about. It was my idea BTW to see if there was any interest.

What about joining the local yacht club and just pending time around other like minded people?
