Pesty Carbon Based Units
It occurs to me that with all the stories I've read over the years on various forums (hotbed of the truth) where boats have gotten abandoned, and which no-one seems to understand why or that later the boat was found to be floating along all by itself just fine; that there has to be a simple answer.
And I feel it is that boats just don't like pesty carbon based people in them, on them, or telling them what to do (kind of like I bet horses don't really like people riding on their backs).
So there is no reason to continue the useless endless debate about hull forms, rudders, new design, old design, storm sails, anchors, etc etc etc
In the end, some boats just don't like people!

As the fiberglass boats are also carbon based units, we might consider that there is some macromolecular competition that will eventually lead to carbon based dominance. "one word for you, Ben, Plastics!"

wouldn't that mean that all we need to do is tell them where we want to go, kind of like the self driving cars being worked on?

It is nice to know we have enough Trekies around to keep thing interesting. I for one have been scanned by sensors many time during off shore passages.

Re: Pesty Carbon Based Units
Finally, you have discovered the truth! We are not in charge, the boats are. I awoke at 4am brimming with desire to serve my boat. First thing I checked the temperature in preparation for her morning paint. Next I devised a cover to keep her dry. Soon I will check on her interior parts that are in the shop for painting. Next I will done my tinfoil hat to keep out any anti boat messages that may be propagated. All hail the supreme boat!

Re: Pesty Carbon Based Units
I thought everyone already knew the boat is in charge.

yep, mentioned this in another thread, why not just remote control the boat across an ocean, technology can do it with sat links, gps, etc, etc.
Just need some solar powere and electric drive, can take as long as it takes to get there.

Obviously there are a whole bunch of folks here that actually enjoy being splashed/drenched with salt water while being thrown about a boat. Gee who wouldn't... Others are just green with envy or something..
