Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

OK...

I have a survey regarding Mr. Manatee's, a canal-side eatery popular with Vero Beach FL cruisers. Hint. I eat there often.

Please see the menu and note the signature Woodrow Burger on the bottom right. You may have to click the link to read it. This is a Monday Night/Burger Night deal.

Is it fair or unfair, if you get the TeeShirt, to do it more than once? That is, to return the next week and duplicate the first success?

Fair or unfair?

Skip, not a problem until they start to call you by name when they seat you.

Man, that might one day be one expensive T shirt.
You really eat that whole ting?

Well, I overheard a wait staff comment 'he comes in every week and gets a T-shirt.' I've actually submitted a question to their website interface asking 1) am I abusing the privilege? and 2) offering to help them in promotion.

Yes, without any fuss. The first time I did it, it was with another couple whose male side joined me. He made it, but commented 'I finished it, but not with your panache.'

It's really no big deal. There are get a free shirt, or eat it and it's free deals which are really serious (and expensive) such as the 72oz sirloin with baked potato and some other side, I forget which.

It's really not more than a 2x well-dressed burger meal with FF and two cherry tomatoes on those sticks in the picture. There are at least one (twice I had two) pork roll slices, which are about the thickness of mass-package bologna. Those, when I split the burger, make the top layer. The bun half makes the bottom. My fingers get greasy, but it's much easier to handle.

I am sated but not stuffed, and they make great burgers. The price ($15) is commensurate with the food provided.

All three times the waitress has said she'd nearly never had anyone finish it. Yet, in my limited (total 6 possibilities including friends) I have never seen a failure. Maybe cruisers are a Cassius - you know, with the lean and hungry look (apologies to Shakespeare and acknowledging the misquote)...

By expensive i meant paying for the Bypass surgery or maybe stints or something.
That looks to be a heart clogger if I've ever seen one.

Re: Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

Yah, I knew that.

However, it's really not much different than two bacon cheeseburgers. Once a week (that's about all it amounts to for me; PBJ or stir fry, and, now that the admiral's back aboard, maybe never again, as she's the one who thinks it's a sin to do more than once) is more than many might eat in a week, but not entirely unusual...

I would guess that those that finish and take home a shirt generate little profit for the restaurant. I would wonder how welcome repeat champions are.

Of course maybe they like the exposure, let us know what they say.

It's just another menu item.
Why would you think it's unfair?
You pay your $15 I assume?

I don't - and think it might be a promotional opportunity for them. As seen in the OP, I net-inquired them to that effect, along with asking if they'd rather I didn't do it again.

Yes, it's a regular meal. You get escorted to the intake desk to pick out your shirt. Now the waitress just writes 'ate the woodrow burger' at the top of the slip, and I pick it up on the way out.

Skip, love a good burger myself. But, dude, that is a monster. Remember a couple of years ago the burger chain in the southwest called Heartattack or their burger was called that? Name escapes me... Anyhow they had a patron come in there several times a week to eat their ginormous burgers like the one you are doing. He died from a massive infarct right there at the restaurant.

Skip, be careful with your health. When is the last time you had your cholesterol, HDL, and trigs checked?
Animal fats are a sure way to clog the pipes. The lucky ones die of a massive heart attack. If you ain't so lucky you "stroke"and become a medical nightmare for your loved ones. Or you have fatty heart and liver and just become more and more lethargic and useless. That being said... Enjoy a good burger once a month and get on statin drugs.

Skip, you are overhearing the comments of the waitstaff, the owners are probably pretty darn happy to give you a t considering repeat customers are rare in that transients area. You put the word out, you tell your friends...

I do remember that place, and the menu. I've never been near there nor have any ambitions to that direction

I used to have frequent - every 6 months or so - blood tests, including PSA. Because of my cruising, it's been well over a year, so I'll do it again, soon.

Then again, there are the revised heart association and/or US guidelines which say not to worry.

And, there were a bunch of side-by-side dietary trials (everyone had to keep logs). The ones who followed the Heart Association rules lost weight. The ones who followed an Atkins-like diet of "eat all of whatever you want, in whatever quantities you want, but no sugar" also lost weight to the same degree.

However, significantly, despite a diet heavy in meat fats (bacon, beef, etc.), the second group had noticeably better heart health indicators.

As it turns out...

Not to cause thread drift, as I'm not in the least bit asking for health advice, but merely to get votes as to the fairness of being a ringer (I laughingly told one gal that, no, I wasn't a pro - I was a shill!). So, please, stick to the topic.

But.

My male upline/sideline family has heart issues. My cholesterols were previously lousy, but not alarming.

However, due to multiple operations on my shoulder in the past, there was ample evidence, through their electrodes, of a sound heart. However...

Due to the history, I managed to finagle a stress test on the insurance program of the time.

They took me off the treadmill way early, even though I thought I was doing just fine; they told me the angiogram couldn't be done for several hours.

Great, sez I, I'll go to my PT appointment at noon and be back at 1 for a 2PM procedure.

"You're not getting out of that chair without signing a release."

Hm. Ok.

So, I now have three stents and the other descending artery was at 55%, which isn't enough for them to act. A radioisotope stress test later showed all was well. I also started statins after the stents.

FF to current times and another stress test and angiogram. Stress test had the tech asking if I was a runner. Angio showed stents doing fine, and the other artery at 30%

I confirmed with the heart doc that taking statins as a maintenance drug cleaned up old stuff, and that, sometime in the not-too distant future, my other artery would be clear.

In the meantime, my numbers have been great.

Based on my experience, each of my 4 siblings are now on statins and have markedly improved (very healthy, now) numbers.

So, please, just vote, and maybe sound off on what it looks like, or the fantastic burger night menu, or other related-to-the-question: Is it fair nor not fair to get a Tee on NL>1 Mondays?

Not only that, I'm a great tipper.

Thanks for the support; don't forget to vote.

And, I do tell my friends; one time I led a group of 12 there (before I even thought about the challenge.

However, it's a poorly concealed secret; if you've been around the Vero moorage, sooner or later you'll hear of it. But 4 of the 12 were new recruits. Cheap burgers, cheap beer - what's not to like??

Re: Mr. Manatee's (Vero Beach FL) Burger Night Survey

Oh, yah, now that I've collected the first 'no' vote, if you vote no, please say why you think it's unfair. As mentioned, in my 'email' (web emails, IME, get read infrequently, if ever, based on the responses I get), I asked for THEIR opinion, and offered to stand down if they would rather I didn't. They have not responded.

So far, in the several places I frequent in Facebook, there's not yet been a 'no fair' (by comment; they don't do surveys, or, at least, I don't know how to make one happen)...
