Hi everyone.
First - a HUGE thank you to everyone who responded to my original post on this subject (
https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...rchid=34541125).
I'm getting some clarity on what to do - and, ran into another bit of confusion. According to the
Florida Department of Revenue, if I
purchase a
boat (and of course do all the other necessary things to stay "onside") in
Florida, if the
boat is "less than 5 net tones of admeasurement" the boat must leave Florida within 10 days. If it is "5 net tones of admeasurement or larger", the boat can remain in Florida waters for up to 90 days after the
purchase (with an additional 90 day extension possible). There are some ways of extending by utilizing
repair facilities but they of course have to be legitimate. And
storage on the hard does not stop the clock.
Here are my questions:
1. What is
admeasurement mean with respect what is being said here?
2. How is it calculated?
3. If the boat is less than 5 net tones of admeasurement, is there a real/legal expectation to leave Florida if it puts the boat/people at risk (i.e. Crossing the
Gulf Stream when the
weather is not acceptable to do so).
Thanks everyone!
