Moody 27 Bilge keel

Moody 27 bilge keel , has anyone been off shore with one ? What are the like for passage making ? What do they sail like .? I’m pitching it against the Albin Vega .

When you say passage making, what are you thinking of doing?

TAKE THE VEGA, hands down over a bilge keel. Check the Vega's out a lot have been around the world.

Bilge keels do not go to windward as well as other keels. Bilge keels are made for tidal waters where you can dry out.

The M27 is half the weight of my M31, so whilst you could sail offshore the space and weight capacity of carrying stuff, food and water will be much lower.

Friends have a M27 fin version. Nice small yacht for costal sailing, turns on a sixpence (dime) and feels like a large dinghy. Wouldn't be my choice for offshore.

The rudder is a spade, bolted onto the transom like a dinghy btw.

Have you checked out Ming Ming. That's a junk rig bilge keeler that has done some impressive miles.

I have a moody 27 bilge keeler, and I have no qualms about taking it anywhere I wish to go. they are great for creek crawling, coastal sailing and handle well in high winds. It is my intention one day after covid if there ever is an end to it to take it across to the med and cruise it there.
