I spoke to a sailor who had a crew jump
overboard in the
Caribbean. The crew had a
boat in the same marina in
Texas, and had come to help him sail his
boat home. One day the crew insisted on staying up at the bow pulpit in rough
weather, then just vanished.
There was an official investigation, and the
captain was cleared. The investigation focused on the background of the two
men and the captain's actions once the crew went missing. According to the
captain, they found that the crew had mood-altering prescription drugs aboard and was under treatment for mental issues (he hadn't shared that with the captain).
My condolences for the
family of the missing sailor, I hope that they can take some comfort in the fact that he was fulfilling his life's dream.
