Mercury motor

I have a 8hp mercury out board that I知 fixing. It runs great but the impeller is dead and I知 trying to remove the lower unit but after taking out the 3 bolts from the lower unit, the lower unit drop to about 12inches and the shaft doesn稚 pull out all the way.
Any help please

Re: Mercury motor

Look in the upper unit for an over shaped rubber plug. Remove and you will most likely find release nut.
