Maxim 38 Various questions

Dear Maxim Owners

I have had great help now that I own a Maxim 38 from this forum. I am sailing it quite a bit loving it. Need some questions answered.

1. What is the ideal size of spinnaker for the Maxim 38. AT most we get during certain times of years gusts upto 30 knots else it is fairweather sailing

2. Jib. What is the size

3. For above two who are good sail makers

4. Water . I switch on my Deck Wash switch to get fresh water once that tank is empty I have to switch to the normal Water switch and many times I have no water think there is air that gets stuck. ANy assistance on this. There is definatley water in the tanks.

5. I just found two nozzels in the front just below the Mast, seems to be water jets. How do I make these work

Best rgds

I suspect these are fill vents. Probably for the fresh water fill, and another for fuel? Are they near any fill caps?

No the fill caps are on the sides of the hull, these look like two spray jets, i opened the speakers and saw water pipes going to them thats how I knew they existed, ver small steel heads and underneath are small nozzels

Vents I'm guessing. Trace the hoses back and they probably to go fittings on the top of tanks. If so, these are go allow air to vent as a tank is filled or emptied.

Hi That totally makes sense. Very difficult to trace some of the hosepies as they simply vanish in the structuree, but vents makes total sense as we will the tank. Thank you..

Ok, let's try this one. Is the deck wash fresh water or salt water? Hard to believe it would be fresh, especially if it is on the front of the boat. Mine is salt water. If salt, maybe you have a strainer plugged somewhere. Am just guessing. But easiest to look in the owners manual or start tracing hoses.

Ha, missed your post! I suspect we both made a good educated guess.

Plug up the ends and you will find out soon enough! ;-)

OP: A picture of the ends would answer this question.

Re: Maxim 38 Various questions

The deck switch when I switch on pulls water from the starboard fresh water tank... If I start with the water pressure switch it pulls water from port tank. I thought that just one switch and then automatically the water when empty on port would come from starboard... so confused.. either way I have issues when one tank empties i have to start the deck wash switch and either way I get problems with air locks!!!
