Looking for Any Marina or Boatyard Hiring !

hey people! For the year and a half i have been working at the local job just to get a little money before setting off. I have about 10k to spend now, not much but something...

anyway i am here to try to get my name out; i am looking for any marina or boat yard that needs some extra help from a hardworking, mechanically inclined individual who would let me live on one of their unused boats while i learned more about this lifestyle. A strange request i know, but the only money i will need is enough to pay for groceries. Wherever you are, i will find a way there!

After much research, i have found the boat that interests me most is the bayfield 29 cutter. It looks good for singlehanding, small and hopefully affordable, and it has more then enough space for one person. If you have one of these for sale, i would gladly work for you until i can pay it off. I am completely serious here.

Please respond if you get a minute. thanks.

Would help if you gave some information about where you are. The forum is international and has members from Australia to Zaire. I am guessing you are in the US but which coast or where are you job hunting.

Good luck.

Re: Looking for Any Marina or Boatyard Hiring !

In the US northeast the boating season is usually over by Oct so most yards are not hiring. Maybe a short term hire to help with the fall haulouts but by Nov they will be pretty much closed down until spring.

Season in FL and the Gulf coast is just getting ready to crank up so for immediate options this area will be your best bet.

Boat yards and marinas do not usually have boats that belong to them except small work boats. They do occasaionally end up with boats from owners that can't pay their bills and abandon the boat to the yard and are sold by the boat yard to recover their costs.

From what I've seen, to get a job at a boatyard or marina, you first need to spend some serious time in jail or rehab for armed robbery and kidnapping. Then the State will pay some employer to give you a job at minimum wage so they can bill out $85 / hr for your time while you learn how to use a lever.
It helps if you have racist facial tattoos and come from Louisiana. If that doesn't do it Florida is always looking for a few good water cops.

Yep. If you don't have all of the above, a young guy will find boatyard work.

Ok, now you're in love with the Bayfield. I had one. A J29 crosses your path, you're mincemeat. It's the blonde with big boob we're after, not a Bayfield. It has an engine in case you want to come about.

A bunch of us on here came up this way. Walk out he door and head south.

Re: Looking for Any Marina or Boatyard Hiring !

Hi, i am sorry to revive this thread.

I just arrived down here in st augustine to work for Scott but he does not have any work for me now apparently. (i wont rant) I will be here for at least a week more looking around for work but it seems the season does not get busy until march or so. If anyone is willing to take on an apprentice i can provide multiple contacts that will attest to my dedication to my work for them, including the one who i sailed down here with.

thank you for reading.
