Long Island Sound opening status

OK, I'm in the water at City Island and I've been out sailing, now I'd love to travel a little further. Does anyone know what the rules are around long Island
Sound? Are places opening up? Like to hit Northport, Oyster Bay, Port Jeff? Mystic, Stonnington Newport, Cuttyhunk? Anyone want to chime in with what the rules are in your harbor?
Thanks for any info

Open for business for the most part. Town docks open, fuel docks open. Less boats in because there were a lot of delays at yards. A million jet skis and trailer launched boats everywhere on nice days. On gross days you have it all to yourself. Other than small center consoles fishing shoals l, We saw 1-2 other boats out in the actual sound. Some of the best day’s I’ve ever had sailing thanks to no traffic in the sound itself.

Local Law enforcement greatly stepped up and patrolling everywhere. Looks like they’re trying to crush an on water protest.

Mystic, for some reason, had patrol boats out just watching everyone go by In Fishers Island Sound.

Northport opened last week. The pick up/drop off dock is open, the dockmasters are working. The yacht clubs are running their tenders. The restaurants are doing take out but with limited hours.

Patrols are just keeping an on on things. Not shooing or harassing?

At least in upstate NY that seems to be the case. The cops seem to be enjoying having a calm job to do amidst all of the craziness and I haven't seen the local ones bother anyone yet, even when I expected them to.

I saw dozens of stops in a few hours in Port Jefferson.

I also got a ticket for no whistle in my dinghy down your end of the sound. I think they’re trying to make up the tax shortfalls.

It gets better the farther away from the city you are.

Re: Long Island Sound opening status

A few weeks ago there were threads on here that RI (Newport, Block Is.) was requiring anchored boats to self quarantine for 14days. Not allowed ashore, not even on empty beaches.

I don't know if this rule is still in place, but I'd call the harbormaster before heading into RI.

Three Mile Harbor, all the way East, seems to be mostly functioning normally. I saw no unusual patrols, just very light boating traffic in Gardiner's Bay. I know that Harbor Marina is open, but requires social distancing and masks. Showers, stores and toilets not available. Looks like the pumpout dock is functioning normally at the Town Dock.

I started those threads. RI is back to normal. No quarantine unless you are arriving from a place that had quarantine in effect or if you are international.

Re: Long Island Sound opening status

Oyster Bay Marine Center gas dock and transient moorings are up and running, the town itself is take out, they have not opened Cooper Bluff the dock side bar yet. Ditto on the coast guard and bay constables. Every time I go onto the sound I have seen them either coming or going.
Imho Most nautical authorities won’t try to board a vessel with sail up, especially if your over 30 ft and making some headway. You would have to drop sail and power up, that can take time. They are chasing the low lying fruit, jet skis and trailerable fishing skiffs.
I have always found the center of the sound free of obsticles😭 during the week
Oyster bay to Stanford.*except for the fuel barges

Is the 79th street marina open?

Hey KD9truck. Do you know if the waterside lobster place in Bayville under the bridge on the other side of west harbor is open?
