My opinion is, get ready here it comes, is that ppl who fly a jolly Roger are.....perfectly normal individuals and its no bodys business what they fly. I personaly am in love with the romantic idea that we created of the fictional swashbuckling pirate. Not the real murderous ones of old and anyone dumb enough to believe I am is pissing in the wind when they make they're pointless, yet funny, remarks on the subject. I think ppl spend way tomuch time pissing about what every one else is doing. But I m drunk on rum so I don't know anything. Hoist the colors!! Lol

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

Heh... Prince Harry was just following the family tradition...

You would think he'd have had the common sense to know that was a bad idea... but as it is, I guess not.

It's a kinda hard line to draw... Would I ever find a Nazi costume or a Klan costume in good taste? no.

Would I ever fly a jolly roger? no.

Do I think flying a jolly roger, a flag related to a sufficiently distant historical era, unforgivable? no.

Seems like there are better things to get bent about.

Mine is indeed a very much used name.

need a like button..... goood one...

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

Because hollywood and the general population's acceptance and enjoyment of pirate lore is not going away. And Somalian stuff doesn't really make the news...Perhaps renaming the present ocean marauders as terrorists would work.
As many here state, there is no correlation between Somalia and the Hollywood portrayal of "pirates" such as Jonny Depp, and children's stories.
Most (land based)people are not aware of the correct definition of a pirate - they know of terrorist and insurgents (the guys with the Ak47s). It is mostly cruisers who know..However, since they (the Somalian terrorist navy) have the approval of their government (whether you recognize it or not) they are technically privateers.
Surely the bar room stories would be more colourful having foiled a terrorist attack than a pirate attack.

Excellent. Ill fly my (fake) murdering thieves flag and you fly your (real) murdering thieves flag. Then we can just leave each other alone and anchor on opposite sides of the bay...

Re: Jolly Roger, Pirates and Political Correctness

I think I'll fly my Jolly Roger, a Rubber Ducky and my Naturist Society Flags this weekend and see if it keeps everyone away. Anyone who does come around will probably be fun to hang out with. At least for awhile. LOL

Well, the one on the left is the Navy Seal insignia, so I'd probably say hi and buy them a beer. Doubt the same boat would be flying both...

Don lucus u must fly a Republican flag......show us one pirate of today flying a jolly Roger and u might have a deck to stand on. Did one eye Willie board one of your merchant vessels and rape your crew? Cause that's the only way I can see anyone takeing real offense to a fake flag...sorry im a lil rude im just a lil buzzed from my own debauchery
