Irene - Anybody In Herring Bay ?

Is anybody down in Herring Bay right now (Saturday afternoon)?

My boat is on the hard at Shipwright Harbor, and I secured it as best as I could. I figure the surge would have to approach 7 feet before the boats would start floating off of their jacks, and it's not supposed to be that bad. The winds seem pretty bad, though. I see on Weatherbug that Chesapeake Beach just had a 62 mph wind gust.

I'm home in Alexandria, VA now - just wondering how things are going down there...

Good luck!
Chris

Just left, winds are gusting pretty good, out of the north, but high tide was no different than usual.

Re: Irene - Anybody In Herring Bay ?

I'm on our boat in HHS. Right now winds are N slowly working to NNW at 35-40 kts sustained. Max reading recorded on my wind gauge was 48 kts. 983 mb according to my weather station. Winds have been TS force since about 12ish I think? Not your average cat 1!! My biggest concern was the surge. Fortunately as of right now water levels are near normal conditions. High tide is 3:30 am, and I will be glad when that is past. Wife and kids are on dirt, but there are a surprising number of liveaboard here standing by to make adjustments, etc. I've been watching movies- the conditions seem much better when you're not watching the weather channel!! So far not much damage seen other than someone who left their headsail up.

Chris, Patty, Alan, Hotel L-

If you have access to a reasonable internet connection, the web cams are active (albeit very slow).

Herrington South looks to be witnessing some storm surge right now.

Re: Irene - Anybody In Herring Bay ?

Good to hear that there's not much damage (so far).

The news is saying the worst will hit between now and 1am (roughly). Winds are forecast to be around 60mph peak gusts, but with only a 1 to 3 foot surge.

Good luck!
