They're just thugs with guns restricting our freedom. A cop is a cop is a water-cop.

delamarrey first raised the issue about the USCG. I don't have a complaint with the USCG.

That was my point exactly when another post suggested cutting the chain. You'd have a short leash. I think it would be funny to get a permit from the city of Newport and have a few cruisers protest the Harbor "police" office with the media there and see how tough they act then.

Actually, except for Florida which has the excuse of coming from Spain instead of a proper British commonlaw tradition, militia service is compulsory in most states and compulsory on the US federal level. You've got no choice about it, although the feds exempt certain necessary personnel like mail carriers and shipworkers IIRC.
The local militia, in the US, are typically your friends and neighbors who live around you. Whether in or out of active service, they're likely to be on your side. And quite surprised when they get their call-up notices.
|
I probably am missing something... What states have compulsory militia service? And at the federal level? Is this discussion about the United States?
As to Commonwealth of Nations (formerly known as the British Commonwealth)... Canada, UK, Australia all have a volunteer army at this moment....
During war... all bets are off.... and a country shall do what it must to survive....

Couldn't agree more.. The Coast Guard are a bunch of thugs.. just trying to punish sailors....
BTW... what is the service called in the white and red helicopters that have those NON-selfserving idiots called 'rescue swimmers' that try to save the bacon of sailors in extreme conditions? Those guys have to be kool and good... Not like the Coast Guard....
right?
or am I missing something....
---
I like to say that each country has prisons... and they are not just for foreigners.... I guess that this can be expanded and stated that criminals come from all walks of life... From dropouts to Cops to Priests to husbands and wives.
We should be careful not to judge a whole class of people... and, unfortunately in the civil service (or in some private firms) the latitude of the public/private servants to do different things can be limited.
If America is a Police State and miserable... then I invite others to compare to Russia (the old USSR), (former East Germany) or other examples too numerous to name. I know I will do no wrong, and I do not need a 'Policeman' to verify this... but ... I am happy that they are checking out the crazies on the water....
and if they need to talk to me.. to verify that I am not hurtful crazy.. then well ok... A minor annoyance compared to other things I have witnessed in other countries.
Sorry.. enough of a rant... flame on....
