Interesting! Even of greater interest is the City of Central Falls, RI!!! The City is small, 0ne (1) square mile, population about 19,000. I counted 20 police cruisers in their parking lot one day NOT including those unmarked or on the road. AND THE CITY IS KNOWN NATIONALLY BECAUSE IT IS BANKRUPT!!!

Re: Impound !

This thread makes me laugh. Dani and I pulled into our new marina and signed all the papers and presented insurance, all that jazz. We gave them our CC info for the slip fees. 3 months later they hadn't charged us.

We just kept waiting. Finally I called the office at the marina and asked why they weren't billing us. The lady told me we had missed signing some slip of paper and they wouldn't charge us until it was signed. "Were you going to let me know?"

So we get the paper signed but they apparently lost our CC payment info. The guy that does the AR works on it part time. We spent 2 weeks calling trying to get this guy to bill us.

We were 4 months behind on our slip fees. FOUR MONTHs. I practically had to go stuff dollar bills into their hands to get them to take the money.

Its like the polar opposite of how it sounds in CA.

Re: Impound !

It's misleading to call it rent. I'm not renting my own boat. I'm "parking" it. Of course we try to pay on time. But **** happens, there needs to be some room for that.

"Am I the only one who might consider cutting the lock and slippping away?"
See, now that's the trouble with crime. Amateurs screw it up with half-assed plans and give it a bad name. If you're going to jailbreak the boat and steal it, AFTER the cops have written down your name and seen the vessel, the only really safe way to do it is first to kill all four cops, then remove all paperwork from them, dispose of all four bodies AND their boat in a way that can't be found (which is, by the way, really damned hard or expensive these days) and THEN when there's no evidence left, take your boat back.

Do you have any idea what it costs to have all of that professionally and competently done these days? I mean, in the 1950's you could go into any waterfront dive late at night, slip someone a hundred bucks and get a whack. Four cops? Okay, that'd cost you a grand. Today? To have it done conpetently, not by an amateur, not by an entrapment scheme? And to really get rid of those bodies, or make it all look accidental, and have it happen FAST so you could get your boat out before someone else noticed it, or took a cellphone picture with it in the background?

Jeez, rabid. $150 and a couple hours of time is gonna be way the fastest and cheapest way to get the boat back. What you wanna do, that's like going to rob a 7-11, and when the guy says he's only got a hundred bucks in the register, asking him to give you a personal check. Made out in your name.

No comment on the morals or ethics of any of the above, I'm talking strictly dollars and sense, this is economics101.

paying rent to park is rent--needs to be paid so y elook respectable... goood luck.
i bought a pos boat in long beach many years ago -- found it locked to the police dock after i took possession-- had to pay $1500 of the previous owners fees before i could use it for mine-- was a bad joo joo beginning for me n that pos boat-150 dollars for impound is low-- be a good doo bee and pay on time so ye dont have to go thru this --is bs but is control freek bs placed on us for the benefit of the municipality involved.
san diego hits ye with the tow fees and yard bills so impound is over 1800 dollars-- you were lucky to have been impounded in newport beach.. good luck and pay on time.

Re: Impound !

Re: Impound !

I didn't say renting was wrong, I said it is misleading. It is still misleading.

If someone should be happy for being treated unfairly because some others might treat you even more unfair, is reasoning I will never be able to understand.

Re: Impound !

Michael, no one but you has mentioned weapons of any kind.

abh, "How is it possible to steal your own boat? " Once the vessel has been arrested, it may still be yours but it is no longer yours. Steal, jailbreak, the citation will be different but the problem remains the same. If not worse.

Re: Impound !

Your right, only the harbor cops & CG have them. Why do the harbor cops need guns for??? Just goes to show that cruiser's are a bunch of fellons, scum of the earth. Just stay out of places where we're not welcome...CALIF..HAWAII..etc. Michael

Every time I see the USCG, they are "flying" by at over 25-knots going wherever fast and making large wakes. On a mission? (In this photographed example, I believe it was practice/training as I heard no radio communication.)
