A Joule is an energy measurement. Basically 1W per second
It takes 4 Joules to raise the temp of 1ml of water by 1DegC to do that in 1 second would require 4 watts.
Take the kettle boiler linked for example - 20Oz = 600ml
Room temperature water is about 20Degc so I need to raise it by 80 Degc
4J X 600ml X 80Degc = 192000J
The unit is 8 amps = 12 X 8 = 96W
192000 / 96W = 2000 Seconds or about 33 minutes to boil. Even a big cup of coffee (300 ml) would take 15 minutes
It would also take about 4.5 amps. To get the water boiled in say 3 minutes (like your kettle at home) you'd need a unit that does about 80 amps or 960W.

Am I the only old-fashioned sailor around here?
I heat water on the stove and if in harbour or at anchor, pour it through a coffee grounds filled paper filter into a thermos.
If at sea, I use a french press coffee pot.
Or one of these and make only a cup

So what? It is no added cost for the solar to recharge the 10-AH, which is better than the propane bottle that went empty the other day.

Reading glasses. The other day I got a pair of reading sunglasses that had a full lens instead of bifocal, I liked these a LOT better in the cockpit the past week.

I guess the "So What" is that it is not 10ah it is more like 90-100ah.
But if you have the solar array to make 90 amp hours for a pot of coffee, go for it...
If you have a 300W array that would be about 2/3 the daily production.

No it is 10-AH (amp-hours)!!!
Maybe you need a new coffee maker if yours takes an hour to brew a pot! Because a Mr.Coffee using 100amps would need to run an hour brewing a pot to get to 100-AH

Here we go again. It's still 10 amp hours, it's just being used at a rate of 90 amps.

Re: Important things we don't talk about much
I confess it is a luxury and may not reflect universal priorities, but we have an espresso machine bolted in in the galley. (It came with the boat, if that counts for anything). Yes, it is power-hungry -- probably 1500W while it is heating (it runs on 220V form the inverter). But it heats the small boiler to temperature in only 2 or 3 minutes. If the crew requests steamed milk, that takes longer and more power. I feel the power and space it consumes is well worth it for the improved disposition of captain and crew alike.

Re: Important things we don't talk about much
back to important things
Since we are sidetracked by coffee (important) I like the flavored creamers. Besides the taste I like that they last a long time before going bad and since I have run out of sugar on the boat I like that you can just add a little more of the creamer to make up for it if needed.
Now I will admit that the coffee black people are not going to see it the same.
