Idiots try to die off venuzeala

Yesterday some mental pygmies so tried to kill themselves by sailing west along the north coast of Venuzeala from Trinidad to Porto la cruise.
Staying only 5 miles off the Paria peninsula they were, of course, boarded, assaulted, robbed and VERY lucky to be alive.

It really amazes me how stupid cruisers can be!

gloriax -- i don't know where you cruise - but we just left the caribbean after cruising from mexico to colombia to jamaica and down to trinidad and back to antigua and now in tunisia in the med -- we sailed the carib with some south africans and they would not even go and they go everywhere

it was well know to stay well away from the Vez coast -- as Gord put it - it is the most dangerous piece of water in the caribbean - we have been in a lot of places that are less than safe and take our chances but we would NEVER have gotten remotely close to the Vez coast

and if the buddy boat is the one we know - we cruised with them for a while and they are good people -- we will have to email them and ask if they were there

That article said the early reports stated the dead husband was in the raft with her for sometime but the husband was later found still on the boat. What's up with that?

In the real world you have to be aware of your surroundings and act accordingly. If you are not the predator, then you are the prey. If you are the prey then you need to have defenses, protective coloration, emit bad smells etc... If you don't, you will get eaten.

Why folks choose to ignore well known dangerous areas is beyond me, do the cruisers give a reason? Was there some mechanical failure that caused them to hug shore?
We hugged shore ( Mexico) when we were taking on water, but had things fairly under control, could this be the case?
