Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

I just purchased a 1995 Hunter 26 water ballast with a swing centerboard. My wife and I were trying the boat out for the first time and ran into some problem that caused the centerboard to fall off into the lake. I have been trying to find out how to purchase a new centerboard and have not found anything. Can someone steer me in the right direction?

Re: Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

fell off? wouldnt it be secured by the line? on my boat with the same setup, if the keelpin failed, the line would still be attached through the cockpit..

Re: Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

Hello E.L Green,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I was hoping if you can tell if you like the hunter? I'm looking to buy a hunter 26 1994. I never sailed before. I Think this would be the best way to learn.

Re: Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

My father keeps a Hunter 26 with water ballast/swing keel in San Carlos, Mexico. Exactly the same thing happened to him last year after the yard installed the centerboard incorrectly. He got a new one shipped to San Carlos and installed, I believe for a surprisingly reasonable price. If you would like to contact him PM me for info. I'm sure he'd be glad to help out.

Re: Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

My wife likes the cabin layout very much. We have not done much sailing with the boat yet I seem to always by things that need work done on them before I have a chance to use them. I cannot honestly tell you if I like the Hunter 26 yet.

Re: Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

I have a new problem now. the wheel helm cable is bent which make the steerring to the port side stiff with a grinding sound. The end of the cable that is located in the pedestal has a small bend in it. I contacted Edson which is the manufacturer and I was told the single cable is not made anymore and I would have to upgrade to a different system. the coat would be $450.00 if I do the work. Anyone know where I could find another single cable for a Edson wheel helm?

Re: Hunter 26 Swing Centerboard

Somebody installed an oversized line and it is stuck. The board goes down on launching and comes up when pulled on to trailer. Have looked everywhere for info. Do not want to hoist until I can see what to do. At the moment I have raised the table, unstuck a plastic cover and can see nothing . Behind the post is a glob of silicone covering a nut? Cannot see any lines or anything near resembling a swivel pin. I have not removed the mast and cannot see how to move the compression post.

As other people seemd to have successfully lowered the centreboard, could they give me a step by step. Do I have to lowere the mast, and go in thatway to get rid of the compression post, but still cannot see how to get around the plastic casing that surrounds the foot of the compression post.

Please con somebodu help???? This problem is now three years old!!!!
