Family motto is Fuimus. Latin for, "Been there, done that, go the T shirt."

But Kathy (that's her name) is probably better off than I. (Hay, got the "I" right!). But I have enough to survive, which is all I want. Life is grand if you don't have expectations.

Please look at the poems on my web site. Read them with passion! They're fantastic!

"I like her too, but, just as I would be unwilling to get her to come to the boat against her dreams."

IMHO 'like' isn't good enough from your side, if you are going to share and spend your life with this lady I'd believe there must be love on both sides of the equation.

Re: How to Explain to a Woman what Liveaboard Means ?

Well, I told her the house would not be coming off the market. I expected fireworks, but none of it. She says we will try me getting the boat ready then she will come out and sail for a month. If she lasts a month we will discuss her staying longer. If it feels to me like I'm forcing her I will not let her stay.

Any one want to buy a house in California?

How exciting! Your adventure is well on it's way :-). Sounds like she really is willing to give it a try, gotta give her big kudos for that! I can't imagine anyone not loving this life.
Cheers,
Erika

Thanks for the incouragement.

BTW my first stop after the house is settled is Kemah. There are so many boats for sale in that area I am sure I will find one. Spend a few months there for whatever refit I would need then head east. Take a year to get to the Chesapeak and settle into the Salt Ponds for the summer, Florida and points south in the winter.

That leaves me on the wrong side of a large and high disruption in my progress toward my ultimate goal. A disruption that will deplete any savings in the primary costs.

Not leaving boatless...

I did a quick search on Kemah yacht broker. So many nice looking boats at attractive prices. No way that you're leaving there boatless.

So, is it possible to slow things down a little here? Get a bit more of your relationship sorted out and your significant other as fully informed as practicable?

Re: How to Explain to a Woman what Liveaboard Means ?

The house is selling very slow, and things are taking more time than I want. I know there are boats in and around Kemah, one in particular. I found out today that this boat is still on the market and I have to see that one first. I'd tell you but if you bought it I'd have to kill you.

Don, I have some favorite poems myself, many shared on your nautical collection. Though Eugene O'neill is best known as a playwrite, check out his 1921 poem "Free". I think it belongs on your list. Take care and joy, Aythya crew

I stay on my boat 8 to 9 months of the year, winter on the upper Mississippi is just to cold to heat the boat. My wife comes over on weekends (4 hour trip) she doesn't want to give up the house. The grandkids are the main thing that keeps her home and her flower gardens also take a lot of attention. But it all works out and we are both happy with how we live. We do about 1 cruise a summer and next year is Chicago & lake Michigan. Living on a boat is not for everyone.

I got married and two months later moved my wife from the east coast to the west coast. Best thing that ever happened to either of us, as itmade two very young "adults" growup fast. While you are not in that situation, it will cut the ties to the "local" family.

Re: How to Explain to a Woman what Liveaboard Means ?

The day I got married I took my wife 500 miles from her home. That marriage lasted 38 years. But this is taking a grandmother away from her grand daughter, much harder link to break.
