How Many Sea Miles Did You Log in 2010 ?

We're clearly a mixed bunch; some of us are onboard just at weekends, some are preparing to get a boat, others live onboard all year and a few are on at least their second or third RTW!

Reading another thread made me curious, how far do we tend to venture each year? For me, I probably consider cruising as a lifestyle choice more than an actual journey, but I'm interested to know collectively what the numbers are.

In 2010 I logged just under 5500 nautical miles, which was higher than normal, but less than I hope to sail each year once I get going properly.

How about you?

Cheers,
Neal

I did an average 4000 a year on 3 year cruise in caribe and south America, and I don't like to stay to long in the same anchorage . My guess is it will be more if you cruise south pacific or RTW

Re: How many Sea Miles did you Log in 2010 ?

A downhill slide to Hawaii and sailing around SF Bay gave me 2300 miles in 2010. 2011 is going to be considerably less as I haul the boat and do some pretty extensive improvements.

Around 3000 miles a year the last two or three. Only ome of them was 'full-time' though.

We 'suffer' from the maladie of enjoying exploring on land and making friends with locals and boaters which makes us stay as long as we enjoy it....

Than typically one morning, we just sense it's time to heave anchor....

This is the beauty of it to us.

Some do a RTW in 1-3 years, some in 15 years.

We take it as it comes, one day at a time

Re: How many Sea Miles did you Log in 2010 ?

Last year was 6000 miles, Trinidad to Maine to Florida. This year Klondike has already come more than that on our way to Hawaii. Add in the trip back to the mainland, plus a slide down to Mexico in the fall, and we will be well over 10,000 miles this year, and 75,000 since we bought the boat.

None at sea unless sampling sewage outfalls off San Francisco count. Plenty around the SF Bay and Delta.

2010 was a quiet year... one delivery UK to Turkey that took longer than expected due to complications... wind on the nose all the way and a near sinking in a Catalac... 7weeks turned into 3 months and I had to knock back 3 nice mono jobs as a result.. after that the short season was gone..
Then.... just local playing in my own boat...

Fewer this season than previous years. Just got in from Bermuda on Thursday AM in Annapolis for the Summer. Probably will not be sailing back to the Caribbean this Fall for the first time in 8 years.
