Re: Help

Hi, Marinemedic1,

Welcome aboard CF.

Go to the Search button, and click there. A drop down menu will appear. Go to the CF Custom Google Search. (The first Search option is case sensitive and requires a perfect match, and therefore is difficult to use. The CF Custom Google Search is very good for ideas where a perfect match is not required.)

Click on the Custom Google Search, and a window appears in which you will write something like "sailing from Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico via the x river", and you will get a variety of things to look at.

In addition, you could start a thread, on place in OK to destination in the GOM, via x river, and see what folks in your area have to say.

Good luck with it.

Ann

Re: Help

Welcome to the quirky CF! If you're using a phone app, the search feature doesn't work as easily as the portal on your computer. Well to be honest, it doesn't work at all so I just save my searches for when I'm on the laptop.

Re: Help

Would the Red be the only non-dammed route to the Gulf? I would think some spots are too shallow for more than a rib or a bass boat

Re: Help - Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico

You have to drop in around Port of Muskogee, you might be able to at Port of Catoosa, but for the mileage difference, Muskogee would probably be easier. After Little Rock, AR you have a couple of different options to getting to the gulf. Best to look at the inland waterway maps, but be advised staying off the Mighty would be a good idea to avoid the traffic. You should look up a local fellow by the name of John Grim on facebook. His profile is public I think so you can kinda creep his profile and see his experiences (he's a great story teller) or honestly just message him, he's a fantastically friendly guy.

He just did this in his Beneteau 40 Oceanis. He ran aground many times, mainly around marina areas. Also so some very scary run away markers that would sink any fiberglass boat and some of these buoys are like submarines that sink and resurface, all whilst moving with the current. Definitely read up about the dangers of the river!

Re: Help - Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico

You might try searching YouTube, if somebody's done it, there's a good chance they videoed the trip. As to the operative word "sailing," I'm guessing you'll have to drop the mast and motor to get to the gulf.

Re: Help - Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico

The entire Arkansas River Navigation Project is “guaranteed” by the full faith and credit of the U.S government and the Army Corps of Engineers to be maintained to a minimum depth of 9 feet throughout its length within the main channel.

As a landowner on Robert S. Kerr Lake I have done some research, and this is what I found.

No actual experience as to the accuracy of this navigability claim.

Good luck on your adventure. Kindly please report your experiences on this forum. At least one user is interested!

Cheers,
Sojurnr

You are assuming the op just wants to transport the boat. Maybe he is interested in the trip itself. I would be.

I'm assuming that SV Seeker is planning on floating down the Arkansas, but sure wouldn't swear to it.
