Hello!

Recently took over a Shipman 28, and am beginning to clean her up. Decided to start a thread and ask for advice along the way. Thanks!

First up is the venting system. It is the original. I was planning to take off for cleaning, but the plastic is extremely brittle. Should I replace? It's a 3.5 inch hole. Looks like most of the replacements are 4 inches.

Re: Hello!

Here is the SS Cover. Still looks good so I don't think it needs replacing.

Re: Hello!

Welcome to the forum...I'm sorry that I have absolutely no experience with that type of vent.

Re: Hello!

There are some really nicelooking solar vents on the market at good prices. If you still like the appearance of the original one then stick with it, of course. But if you're only concerned at the size difference, it's amazing what a little saw can do!!

Re: Hello!

If it's already brittle then sooner or later (sounds like sooner!) will crack or break. If lucky will only be a leak, if not a 3 1/2 hole in your deck - and that could happen at an inconveniant time. If it's the only one like that left, sounds like the others went the same way and got replaced because they broke.

My advice is.......put it on the list (i.e. no need to rush with a replacement, but..........)

Anyway, welcome to CF.
