Happy Equinox!

I am in Finland, and on this happy day, as the Finns never tire of saying, from today it is lighter in Northern latitudes than it is in Southern latitudes, and the further North, the lighter

Where I am it's more than 60 degrees N, and in a few months, it will be light all the time. Yes!!

Of all the celebrations of the Equinox, I think the most elaborate which survives to this day is that of the Persians -- Nowruz.

My friend A.J. Cave -- who is a princess of the Quajar dynasty of the Persian Shahs -- wrote this nice thing about it:
