Good gift for a female sailor?

Hey folks,

Looking for a birthday gift for my sailing s/o. Looking to spend ~$100 for something useful for a woman who sails.

Before anyone suggests I'm being sexist because I'm asking for ideas for a woman's gift, let me simply note that women often aren't that impressed with the "gadgets" that guys (at least this guy) would like. I can't see her being thrilled by an oil change pump for example.

As for the $100 guideline, being new boat owners, we don't have tons of extra money and one might say we already bought ourselves a HUGE "gift" in a new (to us) sailboat and the associated expenses that acconany it.

BTW - the last "sailing" gift I got her was a Victorinox "Skipper" knife which she did love.

Thanks.

Re: Good gift for a female sailor?

Hi Valient, my hubby gave me a windless (Lighthouse) for my birthday a couple of years ago. Not a very romantic gift but much needed as I have always been the "windlassie". It is a bit out of your price range, though.

I think anything from Weems and Plath would be nice or a sailboat charm she could wear. As you probably have found out, $100.00 doesn't seem to go very far in the marine world.

Holystone?

Just kidding.

A gift certificate to West Marine would allow her to choose.

You could insert it into a bottle, with a loving message, and give it to her that way.

Re: Good gift for a female sailor?

My wife loves her pStyle. Pee standing up. ThepStyle.com or on Amazon. Now she has every opportunity to fall off the boat while peeing just like the guys. Useful off the boat too when traveling. Also pretty funny when she demos for her pals.

Re: Good gift for a female sailor?

Without knowing what she likes or how you sail it is hard to say.
Do you race? Does she have any interest in a "sailing watch" with race countdown functions?
Or perhaps deck shoes, or if you carry on in foul weather, proper boots or weather gear">foul weather gear? In the cold, good wool/silk undergarments are worth more than jewels. And there are some very nice warm (and not the usual boring fleece) vests from North Face and other non-marine sources.
Better sunglasses & a silk scarf to cover long hair?
Or maybe just something more existential, like a 5-star restaurant that you'd normally never go to, and some really fine wine?

I vote for the sticky gloves and either the pstyle or a female urinal. Yes,I can say that with a straight face, cause I am female!

Other things I might wish for: polarized sun glasses, maybe a nautical themed bracelet or necklace. Padded sailing pants would be good. Also a really good windbreaker. New keens.

A jacket in the boat's colors and the boat name embroidered on the chest. Then, when it's your birthday, she'll know what to get you, too

Re: Good gift for a female sailor?

Thanks for all the creative and should-be obvious suggestions. I think there's a few there to chew on.

Just for background, I have also gotten her some nice gloves, foul-weather jacket (hah, autocorrect tried to make that "foul-weather"... Guess it knows me too well!) W&P parallel rulers (after a nav class), and a few other things mentioned.

Shoes or other things that need "fitting" are tough unless you just concede that they'll need to be exchanged. (Hell, not even sure what size shoe I wear these days!)

Nice restaurant and wine are always great - but we get each other that without needing a reason already.

Any more? (I'm scoping out the embroidered jacket!)

Gift certificate to West Marine? Practical, but I think they get too much of our $$$ too often already

Thanks again, but keep suggesting. I have 2 weeks yet.

My wife has a fender step on her wish list.
Nice if she has trouble on and off the dock.

I bought my wife a nice set of foul weather gear and she loves them. Keeps her warm happy and dry!
