Generator Etiquette

I had been living at anchor in Florida when the night teperature was about 92 with no wind whatsoever. I ran the generator all night for a couple of nights in a row. Sure I was concerned about my neighbors, but not enough to suffer through the heat and bugs.

Right. Tightening halyards doesn't do anything against slap. You have to frap them, or loop them around a shroud.

Every boat is different I guess; mine stop slapping when I tighten them.

rephrase: It takes 10 seconds to stop your halyards from slapping. (maybe 30 if you need to reposition them).

Hey, if you desire to be a vindictive person, then that is your prerogative. Go for it man. I have a jamming stereo with a full 80 gig ipod.

- drunks!!!
- loud talking (gets louder the more people on the boat)
- BBQ smoke
- cooking smells

- people in general
- flapping flags
- stinky boats for whatever reason

I think that's a double negative but I agree with the point. I'd add to the list:
- 60+ year old guys wearing banana hammocks all day
- 30- year old woman wearing clothes all day
Why? It just doesn't seem right

I'm guilty along with Larry. I run my gen set when we are down in the Caribbean all the time. We always anchor as far to starboard in an anchorage as we possibly can (starboard side exhaust). Gen is a Westerbeke 7.6. We have a water separator but it still is pretty noisy. I have only had one person complain and that was in Guatemala up the Rio Dulce. I will go out of my way to anchor where I am not bothering anybody. I will even move the boat if someone comes up on my starboard side...but my gen set is going to run. How else do you keep the air conditioning, ice maker, water maker and bread maker operating?
