Garmin GWS10 Wind Vane Just Fell off

Just heard a loud noise on the deck. Went out to see and found the wind direction indicator vane of my one year old Garmin GWS 10 laying on the deck. Not a bit of breeze out tonight: so it just fell off.

Nothing looks broke on it- before I go up the mast tomorrow- anyone have any idea of what holds this on top of the anemometer?

Gravity sure didn't!

That sucks. The anemometer cups are just a press fit onto the shaft. When I bought mine, the wind direction vane was integrated with the rest of the assembly, so no idea what holds it on. I'd call Garmin and ask for a new one.

Re: Garmin GWS10 Wind Vane Just Fell off

highseas is the WINNER! Based on the claw marks all over the vane there was at least one bird- perhaps a whole convention of Ospreys up there. At least he/she didn't crap all over my boat.

Garmin is sending me a new one- they are pretty sure the old one will snap back on- but, according to Garmin, apparently this is a common event for birds to take off and pop the vanes off. Since we are going far afield, and this vane landed within inches of the edge, I thinnk I will take a back-up.
