Re: Forced at gunpoint to jump off a sailboat in the Exumas

I think one thing is clear - when considering whether to join a boat as crew, do be sure to investigate the captain's public social media postings as one way of helping to determine if you, as crew, are compatible with the captain in question. ...and vice versa if you are the skipper.

Re: Forced at gunpoint to jump off a sailboat in the Exumas

I beg to differ.

The OP makes the statement:

"I tell this story publicly (and I have loads of supporting evidence to back it up, I would not name him and his boat otherwise) partly to warn the sailing community about this dangerous man"

I'm inclined to take the OP at their word and feel that in risking the retaliation of the alleged perpetrator the OP acted responsibly and performed a significant public service and that in censoring out the information require for members of the cruising public to identify and avoid harm from the alleged perpetrator CF has demonstrated a pusillanimous disregard for the welfare of participants in the forum.

Forums are publishers and held to similar standards as other publishers. Where actionable accusations are made, the forum itself (not just the poster) and be dragged into any litigious fray. Continuing to be available for the larger cruising community means responsible behavior on our part.

Our rules specially address disputes and every member agreed to these rules upon joining.
