Re: Favorite cruising related sayings

The old navy saying was “If it moves, salute it. If it doesn’t move, paint it”. I’d change the first one to “If it moves, lubricate it”

Saluting is like lubricating. If you don't salute it, it often makes loud, high-pitched noises.

‘I’d rather have a boat than money’, as if one has a choice.

Boats are like Swiss cheese.
The Swiss Cheese Paradox:
Swiss cheese has lots of holes.
The more holes you have, the less cheese you have.
The more cheese you have, the more holes you have.
Thus, the more cheese you have, the less cheese you have.

The logical conclusion after someone says, "Gentlemen never sail to windward." Nobody ever accused me of being a gentleman!

Re: Favorite cruising related sayings

I remember meeting an older (at that time than me) Brit chap who said " I NEVER sail to windward! However, I frequently change my destination."

I guess that qualifies him as a gent.
