The carnage will stop when those ferries obey the COLREGS and reduce speed in unsafe circumstances.

Wasn't this 18 months ago

Although there was a fatality at the weekend at Lands End. Sadly a 65yr old woman lost her life whilst sailing solo.

40 knots in thick fog seems a bit reckless. Also makes a good case for outfitting all those fishing boats with AIS.

IIRC, the French Maritime Incident report is out (might even be a link in that thread) but the Manslaughter(?) criminal case not yet finished (well, I don't recall hearing the outcome, nor come to think of it anything about it recently ).
