DYI Water Maker build, last stages, Questions.

Hello. My Question to thoughts who build there own water maker or are in the Know.

I'm at the tail end of finishing building an engine driven water maker. This is a DYI effort. Now I'm about to order a single Frotec High pressure housing, (FRP 4040 Membrane Housing (1000 Psi). I have a choice of selecting ether end ports or side ports to connect up the in and out hoses.

My High-Pressure housing question,
it seems for my use the side ports are more suitable if one needs to change the membrane you do not have to undo the hoses? However, I have not been able to find any information as to the effect if the installation is made with a side port instead of end port High Pressure housing? Does anyone know?

Replacement water pre-filter Question, Re pre-sea water filters, I have two Sea Recovery large housings. (Reason, I'm using a large volume Wanner pump 8 gal per min.) the filters for these housings are very expensive. Does anyone know if there is a non-branded replacement 10 and 5 micron replacement filter that are more affordable?

The Sea Recovery Filter references are
0801063057, 5 Micron Filter List $108.00 each and
08020622KD Oil Water Filter List $160 each comes $128 each for 6 in a box?
Attached is the photo of the housing and filter sizes.

Many thanks everyone for reading and considering my questions

Nope file is to big- can send it to your email if you send me a PM

Re: DYI Water Maker build, last stages, Questions.

Ok"Protec" vessels make the side port vessels so that they can be stacked on top of each other for a cleaner installation. However, the end cap ports designs tend to leak after a time, so I would suggest using the side port vessels. Also easier to remove the end caps when changing out the membrane.

I'd suggest you use industry standard style filters that are available anywhere a heck of a lot cheaper than what you posted. A couple of Ametek style housings in 20" mated with a 20 micron followed up by a 5 micron will supply your HP pump with sufficient water flows. I also use spun polypropylene depth filters instead of the so called cleanable pleated filters because I prefer depth filtration to surface filtration.

Good luck on your build.

BTW, when ordering the vessels, opt for the victaulic style side ports and make sure and get the victaulic nipples that will attach to your HP hoses. Makes for a much easier install.

Many Thanks Steve,
I have downloaded Soggy Paws document some time ago, I agree it is a very detailed and a workmen like instructive document. It is one of the reasons I took up the challenge to build one as well.

Kryg,

I have a couple of brandy new still in the box CodeLine 40E Series: 4" End Entry Membrane Housings, 1000 PSI. If you are near Ft Lauderdale let me know, I will give you a good deal on them.

DYI?

Do yourself in.

Sometimes projects have a way of running past just what we hope to achieve - saving money usually.

By the time you add in your own time, custom mounts, etc, even the enormous marine mark-ups start end up affordable after all.

I have plenty of half-finished projects myself.

Hi M. Thanks for the offer, How much would do you like for one of them? Are they side port or end cap hose connections. Also do you have membrane to fit? I'm in Sydney Australia, happy to pay for shipping.

Hi Kryg,

They are end ports I paid $650 us each for them, how does $350 sound? No membranes here.
here is a link to the manufacture.
