Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
I have just picked up on this thread and really hope their is a good outcome. For the little it is worth I will be crossing the pond West to East mid April and even though I might be somewhat more North I will keep Pokerface in mind and keep a lookout.
In the meantime NEVER GIVE UP!

Hey, Bluewater,
Good on ya!
I like the spirit of your reply.
I hope Sietse is sighted soon.

Agreed...
My take is being "honestly optimistic" in cases like this.... We all hear things on a daily basis that defy logic... Why not give "longer shots" the same credit due...
Much admiration for all of the hard work in getting this message spread... Really nice to see...

Ann...
Len's got a new rudder to guide him....
I've been told I need one too...
I don't think they were talking about the same thing...

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
From the news papers in The Netherlands;
As the police said today. The sailing yacht of the missing solo sailor Sietse Hagen has been found yesterday on the Atlantic Ocean. From Mr. Hagen there is still no trace.
The 70- year-old Mr. Hagen departed January 15th from his home in Tenerife to Barbados . Since leaving nothing more was heard of him . A Dutch vessel , which was on route from Savannah (United States) to Agadir (Morocco) found the yacht on Monday at about 2000 kilometers from the Moroccan coast .
The crew of the ship tried to get in contact with the yacht, but there was no response . When the crew went on board of the yacht , no one was present. However, the documents of Mr. Hagen where found .
Acoording to the captain the yacht was havely damaged. They failed to take the yacht "Pokerface" in tow. After taking all the documents and valuables aboard , the captain decided to sink the yacht for safety. Mr. Hagen is internationally identified as missing .

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
A sad ending for both the sailor, Mr. Hagen and the yacht "Pokerface". My condolences to his family and friends. I will repost these details to WWS and SSCA. I do think it fitting that the yacht was found by another Dutch sailor and hope that made contacting the appropriate people back home a little easier.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
A sad ending to a sailor and his boat. At least the family can have some closure and hopefully realize he was doing what he loved to do....

In the found Logbook Sietse Hagen made the last entrance on the 23th of January

Re: Dutch Sailor Missing in the Atlantic
Condolences to the family from me, as well. It is some small consolation that he died doing what he wanted to do, rather than hoping every day for death to relieve his suffering.
We are sorry for your loss.

R.I.P. sir, our thoughts, prayers and condolences to your family and friends. It's a sad time when we have to bid farewell to a fellow sailor this way.
