Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
Thanks Nostrodamus!
I personally didn't know about the Navtex message, I suppose this is the result of reporting a boat missing. Good info, although the boat length is two meters short. I guess this does not really matter looking down on a yacht from the bridge of a freighter.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
We have now issued a report to www.boatwatchnet.org . KDH was so kind to point us this way. Our search request is also spreading on Facebook, so if you have the opportunity to forward...

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
That's terrible. I shared it on my Facebook wall, but don't know what else I can do but pray for him. I don't mean to be so blunt, but did he have any medical conditions that could have struck at a bad moment? Anyway... I hope that he is found, regardless of what has happened.

Good link
I think it is one we should all have somewhere and pass it onto close relatives.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
It seems a good link indeed, but I don't get any response on my report, nor on any other e-mail. Is there anyone who is familiar with the HAM community who could rattle the door?

You're not blunt, just realistic. As far as we know he was in good health when he left. However, he is 70 years old. As everyone knows health risks increase with age. A stroke or heart attack are conceivable scenarios. However this is pure speculation.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
IlCigno,
There is a contributor to CF, ka4wja is his posting name, and he is both familiar with the eastern seaboard of the US and an active radio amateur. Possibly you could communicate with him about Sietse and Pokerface. Most hams would be glad to help.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
ilCigno,
I hope he gets back to you soon. Any East Coast Ham familiar with the maritime mobile service nets could help you get the word out to look for Sietse and Pokerface.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
I don't know what did the job, but the alert on S/Y Pokerface is now showing on International Boat Watch Network . It took several days to appear, I suppose their mail box isn't opened on a daily basis... Anyway, I am grateful for their work.
A similar situation seems to be happening at the Caribbean network Caribbean Safety and Security Net We filed a report twice, but still no response so far. If anyone knows the webmaster of this network could you please make an inquiry?
Thanks everyone for your support,
Timo

Good work so far, everyone. We really need to get folks looking for Pokerface, and maybe this will do it.
Thanks to all who have helped.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
Being a member on the dutch sailersforum I am trying my best to help finding Sietse.
We now try to get the message into Spanish or Portuguese "talking" websites or fora, since that is a quite common language in the area Sietse is supposed to turn up.
It turned out to be a bit of struggle to find these, since my Spanish or Portuguese s***s big time.
If anyone can direct me to possible websites by sending me a pm with an url that would be very helpfull. (I have a friend who will translate a message for me).
Thanks, Koko

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
To make things somewhat easier, we have opened a special temporary e-mail account. This account can be made public and may be used in e.g. Facebook postings, on fora and at any other occasion where there is a need for a response mail address.
The address is sypokerfacemissing@gmail.com and will be open as long as the search for Sietse and his boat Pokerface continues.

Re: Dutch sailor missing in the Atlantic
IlCigno,
On CF, both "atoll" and "Boatman61" speak Spanish and Portuguese. I believe both are familiar with the Caribbean and the Atlantic, as they are long term delivery skippers. Perhaps a PM to one or both of them would lead to some help at this point.
