Re: Dream boat for low price??

Nice pilot boat with AC (16000BTU and 12000BTU Cruisair reverse cycle ac/heat system), horizontal battened main sail and long keeled hull. Apparently a fast boat but the boat is a “wet” sail when sailing to windward.

Re: Dream boat for low price??

Sounds like a lot of coin for a small boat to me.

That boat has near exact shape as my old 1965 wood Garden 35 ketch! I had it for 21 years. great reaching-zero upwind.

Re: Dream boat for low price??

My sons 2011 Beneteau 43 looks better and is about $177,000 US . It has always been in fresh water. Docked in Midland, Ontario, Canada so it would give you a nice ride to get her home.
Take a look:

Re: Dream boat for low price??

So - sorry if I gave anyone the incorrect idea. I am not in the market for a new boat - just like looking and I had noticed these were fairly expensive (note boatpoker's comment on a sold version) except for this one, which was a lot lower. I wondered if some of the economic swings were finally hitting the boat market.

So I am sure that there are a lot of nice ones out there for sale, but I'll stick with the one I've got.

Re: Dream boat for low price??

Boat Poker's example was, after all, for a 7 year old boat, not a 15 year old boat... and in a robust market time.

Re: Dream boat for low price??

As others have said...doesn't appear to be a screaming hot deal as implied.

That said, prices that do look really low can be a variety of things:
- 10yr old photos and the boat is trashed.
- Owner died and the kids just want it gone.
- Owner has lots of debt and just lost his job...so he's just trying to stay afloat financially. If he can dump it for what he owes, that eliminates a big monthly payment.
- Owner simply has no clue what the boat is worth (this can result in silly high asking prices also).

Re: Dream boat for low price??

I dunno. If I really liked the boat and thought the asking price was not completely out of the question if it was in good condition, then I would pursue a loan in that amount. The survey will give you the info you need to negotiate, but just saying $220K is too much if you don't know what a boat like this goes for on average is BS. If you think it is too much in any case, look for a cheaper boat.

What are you waiting for. If I was looking toi go back to sail --I'd jump a plane and take a serious look. But were stuck with a Grand Banks 42 --and loving it.
