Mebbie we'll get to meet him instead of you, Boatie!

I think Geoff (Wotname) is planning on relocating to Tassie in the next year or so, hence the boat will be staying in Tassie for the foreseeable future. But for the time being you may have to settle for having a beer with us instead!

We were sorry to miss out on having a few beers with Boatman Phil, but we had made a commitment to our crew to race, and it was also our shakedown race prior to the 300-odd nautical mile Launceston to Hobart race at Christmas. For the record, it blew 35 knots (and up to 45 in the gusts), so we did most of the race with a #4 heavy weather jib and 2 reefs... smiling as newer, lighter boats were blown all over the place... every dog has its day, and for an old IOR boat, that was our day.

Re: Don't Pay The Ferryman...

Hobart must be packed with boats over Xmas and the new year, Your race, two more from Melbourne and the one from Sydney, The ones I know about,

Parking would be at a premium, Plus sightseeing boats as well,

Congrates on your win,

Yeah, it gets pretty packed. The RYCT encourages owners to relocate their yachts if possible. A lot of boats are accommodated around Elizabeth St Pier and I think that it is a condition of leaseing a berth in King's Pier, that you have to vacate the berth for a week or so around the finish of the yacht races.

Pretty much as soon as we finish the race, get drunk and sober up, we plan to throw off all the race gear, load on the cruising gear and get away for some peace and quiet for a week or so.

P.S. We ended up 2nd on corrected.... behind another IOR boat, heh

That Boatman..... Went for a "short sail" and forgot to bring the boat back

Shoot, now a flight across Oz to pick up the boat and only three ways home.
Either 1,500 nm to windward in the Southern Ocean or a round the world downwind sail via Cape Horn or northwards up the east coast, across the top and down the west coast - gotta be something like 6,000 nm. Anyone know a good delivery skipper

Now that sounds like a plan, might be easier to move to the boat rather than try to bring her back .

I let you all into a little secret - offer rum and Boaties there; offer beer and you had better be someone special

It ain't over yet and it might be quite a while before a definitive outcome is reached but another secret to share - Boatie is persistent and patient

......................

OK, to be accurate, it isn't that hard to sail westwards across the bight in mid summer providing the highs stay low enough to ride the easterlies along their northern side but why return to West Oz from the best kept secret of the Weyalan's land
