Re: Don't Pay The Ferryman ...

I got a reply today.

Tim Cocks was "appreciative" of my (our) support. He said the outcome could have been better but for the probable cost of travel to Australia to proceed against the owners of the vessel and court costs.

Geoff,

Just wrote a note to Tim Cocks. Thought you'd like to know.

LOLOL.... even the banks are at it...
Got the cheque for $10,000AUD finally on 3rd Jan and deposited it in the bank on the 4th...
It arrived in my account today... it was worth 7976euro for quite a while... then this week the euro dropped... so after nearly 5 weeks wait from when the cheque was deposited and then initially sent (alledgedly) to the States (seems the staff at BPI only know one $) before detouring to OZ and todays value they've not only made a profit from the $10K they invested as soon as the cheque went in.. they've also screwed me for 556 euro on the exchange... 7420 was paid into my account this morning..
So my advice to anyone thinking of opening a Portuguese Bank Account is pretty simple...

DO NOT BANK WITH BPI PORTUGAL IF YOU VALUE YOUR CASH....
In fact if I could get away without using banks I would... have to look into that... they've crapped on us for to long...

Kind of unbelievable that they "sent" it anywhere. I thought check clearance between banks was done electronically these days. Boop beep blip -- and the money travels thousands of miles in a nanosecond.

Re: Don't Pay The Ferryman ...

Boatman , your complaining about being ripped off by Banks!!!. Have you been at sea for 40 years or something. Id suggest a quick reading of a couple of hundred back issues of newspapers, mainly since 2007/08.

Dave... got ripped off by Lloyds/TSB over personal liability/accident insurance back in 2002...
When I made a claim... they suddenly decided I qualified as a Temp worker as I was on six month renewable contracts (1999-2000) at CitBank, Cheapside, London when I took out the policy... temp workers are ineligible to apply for these policies..
I got my payments back... nothing more... so spent the next 3 months with a leg in plaster and no income... luckily I had a 1987 Benetau 321 to sell to meet my costs...
So I do have a basic knowledge/insight into the mechanics behind the scenes... thats why I shut up shop in the UK and moved to the rest of the world...
