Does this forum have live chat? If not I can assist in installing it
Does this forum have live chat? If not I can assist in installing it.
The company that offers it free for the first three months and after that it's $200.00 a year. I'm not the rep if anyone's asking. I installed it on another forum I'm on per their persistent request.
Mods feel free to contact me at my Winter home via phone.
The chat room quadrupled their traffic which advertisers love to see.

Live chat is like trying to have a two way conversation with a teletype. It's childish, IMHO.

I sorta agree with the first part.
I told them a dedicated Skype room would have been more practical.
My Barbara runs around in the "clothing optional" mode most of the time so I don't know how well that would work. lol

Chatrooms are so 1990
And having 100's of people trying to have a convo in a chat ... No. Just no.
There are loads of chat room scripts they could use on these forums - from free to ridiculously expensive. I'm pretty sure the Social Knowledge people are able to add one if they so choose.
So far, they wisely opted not to go there; I vote we keep it that way. Sorry
You can always PM someone, and then move on to Skype or whatever you're using privately. With your webcam turned off, even

Not just any traffic.
Chat room traffic doesn't do much - if anything - for advertisers. Unique visitors that fit their target audience, that's what they're looking for. Random traffic is pretty worthless.
Just generating traffic is just adding costs to running your website which is only fun for whomever you're buying your bandwidth from

You mean like Facebook?
Seems to be working for them.
Seems to work really good for the Scuba Diving Forum.

Facebook is a completely different business model.
Also - not a chat room but private chats. Again, not the same thing.
How is it working out for other forum? Has it made them money long-term?
Or is it generating random traffic that they pay for, and maybe some short-term advertisers that may drop their ads when conversion sucks?

Bah Humbug...Are there no prisons, no workhouses, no chat rooms?

Thanks for the offer. Over the years we have had some live chat available but it was not used much and frankly we've had security/reliability issues with most platforms and so have opted out.
Most folks who need to have an offline discussion with another member will set up a skype or google call for that purpose.

But then, I don't have a cell phone, either. Nor a land line. And I took the SSB off the boat.

There used to be a local bar that offered "Semi-Live Entertainment".

Re: Does this forum have live chat? If not I can assist in installing it
It's not easy, sometimes. Some forms for internet purchases and other things insist on a telephone number. Can't proceed without filling one in. So I use the 555-1212 thing. Used to use Dial-A-Prayer.
Email is good enough for communication, leaves a written record, and is relatively non-intrusive. It never interrupts me, since it's not on my person.
