Do you read the whole thread?

Don't get me wrong.

I love when everyone responds to a post with their own opinion, even if they are repeating something someone said 30 posts ago.

There's always something new to learn, and I am here to learn.

And yet, I'm curious.

When you post, how likely are you to read back through the answers to the original poster, to see if what you have to say has already said?

Entire thread reader here. They're kind of a conversation that evolves, so skipping bits gives you incomplete pictures.

the threads i post in are usually pretty new so it's not hard to read everything before posting OR ones that i've been following since inception

on the other hand anything which is more than 2 pages long is usually so far off topic it's not worth commenting or posting anyway

I don't often jump into a thread that has already been going for some time. If I do, I try and at least scan through the progression of the discussion so my new comments can at least be relevant to where the discussion has meandered.

I do find it a bit annoying sometimes when a poster joins in on an ongoing discussion by taking things back many pages. A discussion evolves, so if you're going to jump into an ongoing one, at least try to reflect where things currently are at.

Ha, without the inclusion of emoji's I find that Poe's Law arises. There should be a tongue in check emoji. When one is being playfully sarcastic, unfortunately it can be misconstrued.

I have not yet read through the New Joke Thread, it has reached 14,363 post today. I've almost reached the last page of the world wide web.

My cut off is generally around 2 pages, after that the topic has usually drifted pretty far. Not always, but generally.

I could not claim seriously, honestly, to read every post before posting myself. But where I want to post, I always check to see mention of what I want to say, partly to give others credit where I think it is due, but also, it gives me more of a clue of how to amplify the point(s) I want to make. Mostly I read all the posts in a thread in which I am interested, and then, once I have contributed, I follow the thread for a while. Sometimes people have contradictory opinions to mine, and sometimes I might want to respond to explain why I have the point of view, especially if I left out something important one of the preceding times. ....and there have been times when I have kept repeating the same ruddy opinion time after time, because I ruddy well wasn't going to change it! (Some call this persevering; others, stubborn; and still others, being a pigheaded fool!)

I generally only read threads with less than 30 posts, and also when I think I can contribute. And I try to avoid repeating points made by others. Obviously you have to see a relevance. And I'm really over some of the never ending classics; mono vs multi, keel type, metal vs fiberglass, trump, covid, panty or thong, and what is a blue water boat.

Nah, just read enough to know who is wrong and then post enough to put 'em straight! Most of the time it is the usual suspects who are wrong so only need to read their posts.

I have noticed a thread is usually good for 2-3 pages, after that it either drifts off topic or has repetitive posts.

If it piques my interest I always read through the entire thread but I only reply when I feel I actually have something relevant to add to the discussion.
