Dinghy in slip

I have space to keep my small 11' dinghy in my slip, and since we use it often, I would like to keep it in the water. I am planning to keep it between the dock and my boats stern. Would it be better to tie it along the side of my boat? There is definitely more room behind my boat then beside. Either way the dinghy can be tied on both sides. My concern is that the dock is not protected from boat wakes, so sometimes we get some real good wakes that really move my 30' sailboat. So, do any of you keep your dinghy in the slip with your boat and if so, what's the best way? Thanks!

What about barnacles? Best if kept out of the water, I imagine. People hoist them off the side with a halyard, but then I think it should also be somewhat deflated (so it doesn't burst when heats up during the day) and with plugs open (so it drains as it rains).

I personally never done it this way though - but I wish I did, the summer I kept it on a mooring in the water tied to the boat, I had a lot of fun scraping off the little sharp things...

Thanks for the reply. Its a hard dinghy with bottom paint, barnacles and sharp rocks were my first concern. Now I'm worried about wakes. Do the worries ever stop?

We've just had our dinghy in the water for 10 weeks while we replaced our teak deck.

The poor thing has nearly its own weight in sea grass and critters stuck to the bottom.

Its going back on deck as soon as possible.

Dinghy davits are my next job. Articulated to clear our windvane.

Silly suggestion (always more fun to theorize on someone else's behalf), but could you use large pool noodles to make a sort of a cocoon? There's both protection (from wakes) and flotation (solves barnacle) problem
