Re: Diesel smoke now considered to cause cancer
Of course you know what this means...Some politician somewhere will want a regulated device put on our exhaust somehow.

I hear there is life after death. Can you still get cancer?

A few years back they passed a law here in California that any establishment selling know carcinogens had to post a sign warning consumers of that fact. Overnight, every freaking mercantile, gas station, and barber shop in the state had a warning saying that they sold products known to the State of California to cause cancer.
Sigh.
Not to turn this cancer thread into a gun thread, but the last time I purchased a sidearm, years ago, it came with a warning sticker on the case saying, "Caution, use of this weapon could lead to serious injury or death."
Really?

Re: Diesel smoke now considered to cause cancer
I've been running biodiesel in my car for 6 years and 102,000 miles without issue. With proper protection from getting too cold, it works fine in marine diesels as well.
That being said, I'm currently stuck with a honda outboard since my MD2B is dead (currently being ripped out and drive shaft filled). The honda works fine and is quite reliable, but the idea of cruising with gasoline has more risk if mishandled or poorly engineered.
When funds allow in a year or two, I will most likely repower with a hybrid solution. Lithium ion batteries and an electric motor with a small efficient diesel generator and a mix of solar and wind. Diesel engines just last longer and are more efficient when they are allowed to operate at a constant operating temperature and RPM. Until then, the goal is reduced power requirements and a simple solar setup.

Re: Diesel smoke now considered to cause cancer
Bash-have you ever seen a car purchased (or rented) in CA? There is sticker (required by law!) that is about 10 inches long that lists virtually every material used in building the car and stating that these materials "are known by the State of California to cause cancer". It may be the most ridiculous law I have ever seen. It is doubly stupid because there is no alternative other than walking. And now they tell us diesel fumes will kill you! I just hope breathing salt air remains safe!
