Sailor found dead in his boat
Has anybody seen this yet? Is it real? I'm a bit surprised they showed pictures of the body.
Don't follow the link if you're squeamish. It shows a decomposed body.

Re: Sailor found dead in his boat
Really sad. A rather large ocean to the east of that area and probably been drifting all this time and passed away at his table.

Re: Sailor found dead in his boat
Bit like the guy who died in his boat on the Hard in Almerimar, Spain.
By the time someone found him he'd melded into his bunk cushion..

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.
"who was found dead drifting on his abandoned yacht"
How can a solo sailor be found on an abandoned yacht?
Ship's name was Sajo, not Sayo.
I just hope they found & contacted his family before this hit the press. Imagine this is your loved one, and you find these pics all over the internet
RIP Manfred. Sorry you were shown no respect but instead had your pic posted in gossip magazines

When I 1st read the article I got the impression that next of kin had been informed. Reading it again I find myself in doubt and I am in complete agreement with your statement. Frankly I'm now a little ashamed for bringing this to everyones attention. My apologies.

Don't be - not your fault DM (and probably a few others) felt the need to publish those pics. Maybe next time google a little and pick a link to an article without the pics but that doesn't change the fact that they're out there.
Probably the guys that found the boat took them - unless local police stumbles about in flip-flops and hands out pics to the press.
Side note on edit: even if family has been contacted, having those pics on the net is just 'not done' in my opinion. Especially DM, who posted it as the 1st pic so you see it as soon as the page opens. Hope I never, ever, have to see one of my loved ones on DM or any other site like that for people to gawk at ...

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.
The last paragraph reads: It is not yet clear what his profession was. Although there have been reports that he had not made contact with people since 2009, authorities do not believe that his yacht had been adrift for anything approaching seven years.
Could it be that his family members are now relieved that he has been found?

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.
They also said a friend had heard from him a year ago, on his birthday.
There's a somewhat recent pic of the man in the article, they probably took that of his FB and checked the date of the last public post. If you google a bit you'll find articles providing a little more information and a little less sensationalizing.

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.
Amazing the boat was still afloat...
Shame that the photos were posted but that is not the fault of the OP.
Later,
Dan

Re: Drifting yacht off the Philippines.
The photos are extraordinary!
What a weird story.
I can see how a mast can be ripped off and not pitch the body out of the Nav Station so it must have come down when he was alive.
Maybe starvation??
