Cruising the Mountains of Vermont & NY

Anybody here cruise the mountains of upstate New York and Vermont? Sailing in Lake Champlain or the Finger Lakes. A great canal system. Without the live aboard problems of lack of fresh water, rocking boat all the time, or noisy dock neighbors. Free docking!

I sailed Lake Champlain once (back when there was still a bridge.)

Nice wind. Good beer.

How's the lamprey situation? All the boaters back then were complaining about them.

I am surprised there is little interest in cruising in upstate NY. NYC, Lake Seneca, Great Lakes, Montreal, Lake Champlain. It makes a nice circle. As can been seen in the picture it is possible to sail in the Hudson River because it is so wide.

That's all great cruising grounds! The canals aren't much for sailing, but the lakes are nice. So much to see, I keep going back. Also, there's a lot of history along the way.

Finger lakes, lake Champlain are fantastic sailing areas , including or especially our home sailing area of eastern Lake Ontario and the 1000 islands. Oneida lake not so much. Too shallow and choppy if there’s any wind.

It’s hard to move between them in a sailboat due to the necessity of having the mast unstepped and shipped or put in a cradle to transit the canals. Could be fantastic summer long cruise though. The short sailing season up here probably limits interest as well, canals close early and it’s easy to be trapped somewhere you don’t want to be for the winter.
