Cruising the Mississippi River and onto Florida

Hi everyone, My husband and myself are completely new to the forum and we are looking for anyone experienced with cruising the Mississippi River to the gulf and then around the tip of Florida.
My husband believes it would be a great why to spend our retirement and although I do think it shows great, would like to gather more info.

Since we are new, I think the forum wants us also to introduce ourselves so we will most likely do that in the intro thread.
