Counsel on the best cabin on the Queen Victoria

We’re considering the Queen Victoria world cruise and seek advice on the best staterooms. We took a transatlantic sail on the Queen Mary and chose a stateroom with a balcony with a semi-obscured view; we were behind the staff boat. It was fine for us; we aren’t stuffy!
Thanks!

Regardless of the size of vessel - whether a two-handed ocean cruiser or a giant commercial cruise liner such as the Q Vic, the guiding principles are about the same:

* money, status, privilege usually limit your choice (unless you're a free-riding guest or the owner); and

* you can more easily decide what you want to avoid than what you want (especially because you don't always know what you want until you've lost it). What you want to avoid is easy:

- noise and vibration (engine noise and vibration, wave slap, people noise and vibration, anchor chain noise),

- motion (pitching at the extreme ends of the vessel, and rolling as exaggerated at the higher deck levels), and

- odours/gases (exhaust gases and smoke etc).

Although this experienced cruiser might not agree with you tolerance for an obstructed view, his other views might meet yours:

One that deals with travelling on "cruise ships", not one that is all about people "cruising" on their own boats (mainly sailboats).

A quick web search on "cruise ship forum" (note the word ship ) turned up quite a few hits, including these on the first page:

A Compass 790?
Definitely a great seaworthy cruise boat - even if the crew are prone to mutiny!

Go to https://boards.cruisecritic.com/ for that kind of cruising.
You can also call the cruise line and discuss with them. The phone agents tend to be very knowledgeable of their ships and in my experience are happy to guide you to the right cabin.

We are long time cruisers (and sailboat sailors! Thanks CRUISERS Forum)
and none too picky about our 'cabins' aboard ship.
One thing about the Queen Victoria though - Cunard states that there is no 'Jogging Track', which in my experience is usually the same as the Promenade Deck. Queen Mary II offers a jogging track...
While we don't 'Jog', we can't go a day without our brisk walk, ashore or on a cruise, (sailing is a different matter) and I would not book passage on a ship without a Promenade Deck, or similar that offers a unobstructed daily 3 or 4 mile walk.
I don't do fitness centers, so with all that great food onboard an hour or two of walking everyday is crucial!
Might want to check on that, if it's important to you. The thought of a world cruise is lovely, and I'm planning one myself. All the best to you!

Doesn't even need a captain!
Suspect jazzyjudy may need press ganging & maybe even a taste of the cat ( of nine tails u bstds reading too much into it)after her cabin "tour"
Copuldn't see a cheek by tongue emoji but one is definitely needed!

Re: Counsel on the best cabin on the Queen Victoria

Some practical realities - on a long term cruise, you do not want:
an inside cabin - no view of outside without getting dressed.
an oceanview cabin - no fresh air without getting dressed.
a cabin near the bow - anchor chain noise (up or down) will wake you in the middle of the night & in bad weather your body will be physically see-sawing up & down with the bow pitching as you try to sleep.
a cabin near the stern - engine noise & vibration will wake you in the middle of the night & in bad weather your body will be physically see-sawing up & down with the stern pitching as you try to sleep.
A cabin too high up - in bad weather your body will be physically swaying that much further back & forth sideways through space with the ship rolling as you try to sleep.
A constant succession of short term party time neighbours - those cabin walls are thin.
You do want: a balcony - with a view - great to relax out there in your bathrobe.
A partner who does not snore - you will have no escape unless you spring for a proper full blown suite (NOT a junior suite - which is not actually a suite at all in the normal hotel room sense of the word).
Ideally, a decent size bath. If my wife is any indicator, 3 months is way too long for some just using showers.
Have a great trip.
